Introduction
This new development is the result of a recent master planning exercise designed to consolidate Pre-School, Prep School and Junior School on the one site at the Murdoch St Campus. This has been facilitated by the re-integration of Years 7 & 8 with the Senior School on the Military Rd Campus.
With partial funding from the Federal Government’s BER stimulus package, the project comprises a new, two-storey, purpose built Preparatory School for years K-2 in additon to a new multi-purpose hall, underground parking and extensive landscaping to enhance open areas throughout the campus. The layout of the new buildings significantly improves connections between the various facilities on the campus and consolidates previously segmented open spaces.
The considered use of sun-shading devices allows the new Prep School building to maxmise daylight from its east-west orientation, whilst a simple, linear classroom layout encourages natural ventilation and allows connection and future flexibility. Further environmentally sustainable design principles have been adopted including a naturally ventilated car park, on-site rain and stormwater retention and energy efficient lights, fixtures and fittings.
This project is currently under construction and is due to be completed by the commencement of first term 2011.
