Macquarie Park Rose Chapel

The Journey

An existing ring of mature eucalypti grows in a circular garden within an existing car park.

Within this, we have introduced a circular growing wall to create a separating surround to the inner sanctuary of The Rose Chapel. The nave of the chapel is a pure ellipse which is offset from the radial geometry in response to existing constraints and generating both inside and outside rooms that remain discreet from the public realm.

The intended purpose of the chapel is to cater to intimate services for smaller congregations.  The external face of the inner sanctuary is contrasting raked linear bricks emphasising the sculptural form and significance of this main space.

Within, a solitary shaft of light falls over the catafalque.
