The space is designed to maximise visibility to the external corridor by blurring the boundaries between public and private areas. The design is intended to be thoughtful for visitors, implementing a contemporary palette evocative of the department’s links to China without being too literal. The material selection and form provide warmth and engagement through the use of timber and glazed screens.
The facilities have been carefully planned to maximise visual connectivity between the hierarchy of spaces. Display windows were designed and installed to enable the Institute to securely display their collection of cultural artefacts along the public corridor. The Confucius Institute was developed in close collaboration with the stakeholders. GWA’s first concepts were well received and the ideas were followed through with clarity and consistency.
