[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] The Journey [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="25px"][vc_column_text] Growing from a small and tired existing café with an internal florist, we have worked with Northern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust at Macquarie Park Cemetery & Crematorium to extend, remodel and reinvigorate the café and florist to serve the community. It is presented as a shelter of quiet reflection and solace integrated into the parkland. A place to meet and to interact. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]...

Macquarie Park Cemetery and Crematorium Master Plan

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] The Journey [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="25px"][vc_column_text] Gardner Wetherill & Associates were commissioned to develop and implement a master plan for Macquarie Park Cemetery entry precinct to better utilise the lands potential as well as put in place carefully considered zoning and strengthen the relationship to the National Park context.  The plan includes a function centre, a small chapel, an open pavilion, the adaptive re-use of the tired existing Function and Administration Building (as an expanded Administration Centre) as well as landscape, sculpture and memorial gardens.   These gathering spaces have been designed to serve the community in the journey of remembrance in all its forms of celebration: shelters of quiet reflection and solace integrated into both the parkland and bushland surrounds. With access to fresh air, dappled light, the familiar sound of moving water, the scent of landscape, the binding concept was to create shelters with carefully considered sensory connectivity to their surrounds. UTS Building 01 Level 18

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] The Journey [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="25px"][vc_column_text] Constructed in the early 70’s, Building 1 is a significant work of mid-century modernism, where structural expressionism along with robust and natural finishes are central to the architecture. The refurbishment strategy was to gather rooms around the central core; create open plan to the perimeter, and re‑expose the building structure.   This partial floor refurbishment combines a corporate aesthetic and is distinguished by subtle Chinese influences via an acoustic fretwork, as well the creative use of glass panels to enhance the visual connections between offices.   [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]...

St. Joseph’s College Chapel Refurbishment

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] The Journey [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="25px"][vc_column_text] St Josephs’ College is a Catholic School in the Marist tradition, one of Sydney’s oldest established boys’ schools. Working closely with a liturgical design consultant, we developed designs for renovation of the school chapel, first constructed in 1938. The design scope included all new liturgical furniture, as well as complete refurbishment of the interior and services of the building.   The new layout provides a tailored space to enact the current rites of the Catholic Church. More flexible seating arrangements and an extended Altar platform are provided, encouraging a stronger sense of the gathered assembly. Custom modifications to the existing light fixtures enhance the soaring, ornate decorative ceiling and new integrated lighting and AV systems will allow technology to be subtly customised to the liturgical actions. Macquarie Park Lotus Pavilion

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] The Journey [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="25px"][vc_column_text] Set in a former stone mason’s yard at Macquarie Park Cemetery located by the Lane Cove National Park, the architecture of The Lotus has been developed as an unassuming retreat for religious and cultural groups to come together and recognise the passing of members of their community.  It is a private haven in which to hold these ceremonies.   The plan was developed on the nine square proportion which provides the flexibility of orientation for differing religious requirements.  The roof is low pitch and simple in form sitting lightly on a series of columns surrounding the space.   The idea of connectivity to the environment was central to the design. The finishes and textures have been selected to be evocative of those found in nature.  The design was developed as a place that captures positive memories and comfort for the community:  a peaceful place to mourn the loss of a loved one.
