Macquarie Park Mausoleum

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] The Journey [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="25px"][vc_column_text] The Mausoleum of the Holy Way provides the community with a tranquil retreat for mourning; a place of rest and quiet reflection.   The architecture evokes positive memories and sensory well-being, with the familiar sounds of moving water, as well as the visual and aromatic pleasure of landscape.   Lightly resting on a rhythmical structure, an angular skillion roof defines the space. Allowing access to fresh air, shade and dappled light, the structure becomes the transition between public and the sanctuary, where a processional Olive Grove leads your eye to the XII Station of the Cross.   Symbolically, “The Crucifixion” acts as the centre point of the Mausoleum design, intersected by the Stations of the Cross Walk, which joins all the elements of the composition in a connective dialogue.   As you move through the radiating crypts and columbaria, the palette of rich natural materials, textures and colours thoughtfully acknowledge both harmony and sorrow.   [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]...

Macquarie Park Cafe & Florist

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] The Journey [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="25px"][vc_column_text] Growing from a small and tired existing café with an internal florist, we have worked with Northern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust at Macquarie Park Cemetery & Crematorium to extend, remodel and reinvigorate the café and florist to serve the community. It is presented as a shelter of quiet reflection and solace integrated into the parkland. A place to meet and to interact. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]...

Macquarie Park Lotus Pavilion

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] The Journey [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="25px"][vc_column_text] Set in a former stone mason’s yard at Macquarie Park Cemetery located by the Lane Cove National Park, the architecture of The Lotus has been developed as an unassuming retreat for religious and cultural groups to come together and recognise the passing of members of their community.  It is a private haven in which to hold these ceremonies.   The plan was developed on the nine square proportion which provides the flexibility of orientation for differing religious requirements.  The roof is low pitch and simple in form sitting lightly on a series of columns surrounding the space.   The idea of connectivity to the environment was central to the design. The finishes and textures have been selected to be evocative of those found in nature.  The design was developed as a place that captures positive memories and comfort for the community:  a peaceful place to mourn the loss of a loved one. Macquarie Park Wallumatta Function Centre

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] The Journey [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="25px"][vc_column_text]The architecture of The Wallumatta Function Centre has been developed to invite community participation, positive experiential memories and comfort.   The tapering curved plan form of the main structure reflects the existing serpentine themes typical of the parkland, as well as a response to the topography of the site. Off the foyer, five (flexible) function spaces are positioned under the asymmetric skillion roof which in turn “floats’ on simple columns to create the shelter with an outlook to the bushland surrounds as well as the sky in all directions.   The building section captures an abundance of daylight and focus’ the space onto a reflection pool. With access to fresh air, dappled light, the familiar sound of running water, the aroma of landscape: the idea of connectivity to the surrounding environment has been thoughtfully embraced to make it a place you want to interact with.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]...

Macquarie Park Rose Chapel

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] The Journey [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="25px"][vc_column_text] An existing ring of mature eucalypti grows in a circular garden within an existing car park.   Within this, we have introduced a circular growing wall to create a separating surround to the inner sanctuary of The Rose Chapel. The nave of the chapel is a pure ellipse which is offset from the radial geometry in response to existing constraints and generating both inside and outside rooms that remain discreet from the public realm.   The intended purpose of the chapel is to cater to intimate services for smaller congregations.  The external face of the inner sanctuary is contrasting raked linear bricks emphasising the sculptural form and significance of this main space.   Within, a solitary shaft of light falls over the catafalque. Macquarie Park Cemetery and Crematorium Master Plan

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] The Journey [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="25px"][vc_column_text] Gardner Wetherill & Associates were commissioned to develop and implement a master plan for Macquarie Park Cemetery entry precinct to better utilise the lands potential as well as put in place carefully considered zoning and strengthen the relationship to the National Park context.  The plan includes a function centre, a small chapel, an open pavilion, the adaptive re-use of the tired existing Function and Administration Building (as an expanded Administration Centre) as well as landscape, sculpture and memorial gardens.   These gathering spaces have been designed to serve the community in the journey of remembrance in all its forms of celebration: shelters of quiet reflection and solace integrated into both the parkland and bushland surrounds. With access to fresh air, dappled light, the familiar sound of moving water, the scent of landscape, the binding concept was to create shelters with carefully considered sensory connectivity to their surrounds. Hope and Sanctuary Sculpture

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] The Journey [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="25px"][vc_column_text] Dedicated to the promotion of dialogue around self-harm and mental health: To those struggling to find their peace, to the families who have suffered loss and to the people and organisations that offer support for the wellbeing of people.   The Hope and Sanctuary Sculpture was unveiled on Suicide Prevention Day, 10 September 2018 at Macquarie Park Cemetery by the Honourable Julia Gillard AC - Chair of Beyond Blue.   “A dichotomy exists in life - strength, resilience and stability represented by the upright recycled wooden post and fragility and vulnerability represented by the leaning liquid post poised on the loose rocks below. The concept of eternity equalises these opposing forces represented by the infinity symbol that is used to embrace and bring optimism”. Toby Wetherill – Creative Artist and Architect   The kaleidoscope of various sized butterflies adorning the top of the sculpture circle the area to create dappled light as you might find...
